The 3 Orkney Towage tugs, HARALD, ERLEND & EINAR, and the 2 visiting tugs, Caldonian Towage’s STRATHDEE & Targe Towing’s KITTIWAKE returning to the Scapa Pier after berthing The Desimi Next to the Houston for an STS operation in Scapa Flow. Normally the 3 Orkney tugs are normally sufficient for an STS operations but if both ships are VLCCs then 4 or 5 are required. The Orkney Harbour Master and the Harbour’s Superintendent of towage & pilot launches were taken out for a demonstration. The Orkney harbour’s are currently in the process of awarding a contract to start replacing their 3 tugs with new built ones.
